As an avid interpreter of contemporary music, Alex Ishov enjoys the thrill of challenging expectations and widening comfort zones. He has performed with the JACK Quartet, Irvine Arditti, Steven Schick, and Brad Lubman, among others.
Equally comfortable as an orchestral flutist and piccoloist, his playing has taken him to halls around the world, including Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Royal Albert Hall in London, and Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
Alex Ishov is a strong advocate for jazz writers and arrangers incorporating contemporary flute techniques into their works. At Eastman, he recorded with Julian Tanaka and the DoubleFist Ensemble, intersecting the worlds of Modern Jazz and Contemporary Classical music.
Alex is exploring ways to incorporate Augmented and Virtual Reality technology into music, in both performance and educational contexts. Contact Alex if you are a tech professional and would like to inquire about his projects.
